Hello everyone! AnimalAwareness introduces our first issue in our Bi-weekly series. Every issue will have the latest news, facts, and information we can get to you relating topics on our animals and environment.
This week, we don't have any features for LAN animals but be sure to look out for that in the next issue!

Current Events:
July 29, 2013 / Woman Torches Dog To Death; Caught Bragging on Facebook - "I'm on killa mode… kill dogs… today..I mean what I say and I say what I mean… all dogs don't go to heaven."
Adrienne Martin set fire to Brownie, a defenseless dog. He had nowhere to run as he was being anchored by a chain Martin had on him. Brownie was rushed for emergency medical treatment but later died. (Source)

August 7, 2013 / Why Are Dolphins Dying on East Coast? Experts Alarmed - 1,031 dolphins and whales have washed up dead on the east coast since February of 2010, an alarming number that marine experts find to be rising. Marine biologists are working to find the cause of death of these dolphins, and have discovered all have heavy metals in their organs (dolphins are one of the most toxic marine animals) - which has given them a weak immune system. Most of the deaths occurred on heavily populated beaches, such as Chesapeake Bay, where there is a lot of pollution and chemicals in the waters, which may account for many of the deaths. (Source)

August 13, 2013 / Chocolate-Covered Elephant Ivory Seized in Macau - 583 bars of ivory, weighing 75 lbs (34 kg), with a value of more than $76,000 USD were found coated in chocolate inside candy bar wrappers in an attempt to smuggle them out. Researchers estimate that around 50,000 African elephants were killed in 2011 alone from the amount of ivory seized worldwide. (Source)

Spotlight Species:

- Kiwis are rapidly declining in population from being killed by common housepets like cats and dogs. Only 5% of Kiwi chicks survive to adulthood. (Source)

Omg! I recently did a persuasive essay on Animal Cruelty as well as an informative essay on Factory Farming. The research I uncovered during my time working on the persuasive one was horrifying! It was so sad! And that woman!!! She deserves to go rot in... You know. Shame on you all to whoever has hurt animals!

I think you should waste your time helping the poor and those in need not animals.

Why can't we help people AND animals. People do care about people in need, but what makes an animal any less important? Every living thing in need should be helped, human or animal.Maybe one day you will understand.

Humans should not interfere with the nature. They tend to broke her natural balance more than the desired.

That's exactly what I agree about.
Because humans have already interfered and have been for far too long, people need to realize it's happening then be left ignorant and blind :c

No I do not mean nature the animals in nature are doing fine (except for habitat modifacation and things like that.) I'm talking about the bad things like animal abuse and pouching.
