August 7, 2013 / Why Are Dolphins Dying on East Coast? Experts Alarmed - 1,031 dolphins and whales have washed up dead on the east coast since February of 2010, an alarming number that marine experts find to be rising. Marine biologists are working to find the cause of death of these dolphins, and have discovered all have heavy metals in their organs (dolphins are one of the most toxic marine animals) - which has given them a weak immune system. Most of the deaths occurred on heavily populated beaches, such as Chesapeake Bay, where there is a lot of pollution and chemicals in the waters, which may account for many of the deaths. (Source)
